Sheet Lightning Pro Featured

Specialised engineering 2D/3D CAD and Parametric design for mechanical engineers. Create and unfold sheet metal duct, structural steel and fabrication designs for manufacture. It handles everything from simple cylinders, cones, rectangular ducts and ovals, to adapters, adapting any of these section types, interections and multi-intersections between of any of these types to any level of complexity. The software integrates to general CAD systems via DXF files, exporting both 2D patterns and 3D models.

The Professional version includes also Importing DXF Center Line Designs and additional special designers for complex design generation

  • Features:

Includes a predefined parametric library. Libraries can be extended by creating new and original parametric designs from CAD designs. Lobster back bends (i.e. swept or segmented), Specials etc. Includes seamless integration to general CAD systems such as Autocad, Pro/E, Cadkey, Turbocad, Solid Edge, CAM systems and others. Exports 2D and 3D solid/surface designs and 2D flat unfolded patterns. The unanimous verdict of Sheet Lightning from software, freeware and shareware reviewers is a top 5-star rating award - These are just a few of the many awards received.

    Primary Product Design and Manufacture
    - Ducts and Flues, Chutes, Hoppers, Chimneys, Tubular steel products with tubular intersections.

The types of objects handled are:
    - Cylinders, Cones, Ovals, Rectangular sections, Adapters (all sections) - Square-to-round, Oval-to-rectangular etc, Any oblique or skew.

    Intersections can be:
    - Bends, Tees, Junctions/Cross-overs

    Forming (for example):
    - Elbows, Swept/Segmented/Lobster-back bends, Divertors/Breeches, Tubular steel nodes, Feeders, Spiral chutes, One-Off/Bespoke designs

    Importing DXF Center Line Designs
With a bit of 3D design experience using only 3D lines in a regular CAD system it is possible to create the most complex design structures. Consider exhaust manifolds, bike frames, tubular steel structures, playground slides, chutes with complex branching. The list goes on.
The 3D lines are imported and converted into tubes. Any lines that end with their ends coincident at the same point are connected with a bend intersection. This means any number of lines/tube can be connected at the same point. Any lines that end exactly on a midpoint of another line are interpreted as a tee intersection. If circles are placed on the line ends the circles are interpreted to be the tube diameter at that end, so by placing different diameter circles at each end the line is interpreted to be a cone. Any circle placed on a midpoint of a line is interpreted to be the diameter of the whole object - a tube.
